Through both internal and competitive benchmarking with DEA method, this research reached the following tentative conclusions:1.Out of 73 credit cooperatives, 15 are recognized as "best performers" in the industry. 2.On average, credit cooperatives are less than efficient in terms of human resource management, deposit and loan administration. 3.Generally speaking, urban credit cooperatives are less efficient than those located in rural areas. 4.There is no significant relationship between the size of credit cooperatives and its operating efficiency. 5.This study submits empirical support for the notion that operating efficiency leads to higher profitability.-1 -aA Study of Operating Performance of Credit Cooperatives-the Application of the Benchmarking and DEA Approaches
