Because of the clock rate increasing in the design of microprocessor by the improvement of VLSI technology, the microprocessor becomes more and more fast. Function units of the microprocessor need to access more instructions and data to keep them busy, this also means the performance improvement of CPU.Although The design of the external bus and other components of computer like DRAM, has more improvement year by year, but the improving speed of these component still behind the speed of CPU improvement. The only solution to make CPU fast and let the running of CPU not be influent by external components is cache.
