Providing a reliable, secure, and efficient management system is critical to network managers. Besides, in order to support the high quality services with wireless networks, the module of wireless network management is indispensable. Current management tools have incompatible infrastructures such as different information model or access method so that administrators have a lot of inconvenience in managing their networks.Web and Java-based network management provides a globally uniform user-friendly interface suitable for running network services. Java facility, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), and WWW (World Wide Web) are key emerging Internettechnologies to the proposed wireless network management system (WNMS). SNMP isa standard management framework. Java and WWW make us take the advantages of platform-independent. In the WNMS, several critical features such as agent discovery, registrationand binding operation are proposed. We discuss the related works and researchesneeded to develop mobile-aware network applications. In addition to traditionalnetwork management functions, our prototype system has new features so that theWNMS can achieve a high degree of goodness in wireless-wireline networkmanagement.
