The design of the card mainly followed the wireless LAN specification (IEEE 802.11). In this standard, the protocol is divided into two layers, that is , the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and the Physical (PHY) layer. And the PHY layer is also divided into two sublayers, that is, the Physical Layer Convergence Protocol (PLCP) and the Physical Medium Dependent (PMD) layer. The protocol was designed in such a way that relationships between the layers are as little as possible. This helps a lot when the card is physically implemented. In our research, the PMD sublayer was implemented by using the direct sequence spreadspectrum (DSSS ) technique. The first step for our implementation was to realize the hardware of the baseband transceivers and to make sure that the transceivers work well. After this had been done, the PC interface and radio module were integrateda nd the final test for the driver was performed.
