ABSTRACT
Strength of SBS block copolymers is eventually zero when
experiments are carried out at temperature of the PS phase
[1,2 ]. In order to improve the strength at high temperature
, phenolic resin was introduced to chemically crosslink the PB
segments. Effects of crosslinking density and content on the
fracture energy, determined from tearing and cutting methods,
were investigated. Moreover, blends of SBS/PS crosslinked with
different amount of phenolic resin were studied as well. In
this research, DSC was used to reveal the glass transition
temperature of PB phase. GPC was used for the molecular weight
distribution of PS and SBS. TEM was applied for the domain
morphology of SBS copolymers, prepared either by solution
casting or compression molding methods. The molecular weight
between physical or chemical crosslinking points were determined
from swelling method or equilibrium stress-strain method,
respectively. General trends of microstructure-strength
relations were provided at the end.
