Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 土木工程學系碩士班 === 87 === Asphalt content and aggregate gradation are two major properties used for acceptance of an asphalt mix. Current methods for determining asphalt content are complex, time-consuming, and causing problems to both environment and operators due to the use of solvent. By using ignition method, the NCAT Asphalt Content Tester, developed in the U.S. in l995, is a promising substitute for aditional solvent extraction method. Sponsored by the Fourth Regional Branch of Taiwan Highway Bureau (THB), the main purpose of this particular study is to induce the NCAT Asphalt Content Tester. Through reviewing related literatures, the detailed performing procedures of the ignition method, as well as the necessary corrections for the current acceptance procedures were investigated. A NCAT Asphalt Content Tester purchased particularly for this study was used for the study of both accuracy and precision of test results. According to the results of this study, a complete set of data was produced for the correction factor, the after-burn gradation, and test precision. A draft of standard test procedure modifying AASHTO TP-53 is proposed for THB. This study has also shown that by using NCAT Asphalt Content Tester, the determination of asphalt content of an asphalt mix is turned to be effective, accurate, and environment acceptable. To further adoption as an acceptance test, a round robin testing program is proposed for obtaining a full set of precision statement as well as a complete training of operators from different branches of the THB.
