As the result of the utilities is limited(such as total re-construction, preservation, and coexistence), I quote the symbiosis theory and raise my own viewpoint of " the coexistence is not equal to the juxtaposition" and try to prove and exam the module which is benign to the interaction of the oldness and newness. By referring the trope of the symbiosis and the transformation in the design process, I strongly hope that those methods and strategies in design may be the useful examples and references when this subject is repeatedly concerned. The thesis design is separated into two parts: Part I:Theoretical discussion of Symbiosis The concepts of this project are three main-issues: (I) Biological thinking:By capturing the images, circumstances and characteristics of the symbiosis in biology, I try to abstract and transform those special qualities into three concepts, which are:(a)the contrastive state;(b)the reciprocal state;(c)the replaced state. (II) Architectural thinking:To reveal the connection between those concepts and existed cases, I decide the design process will mainly focus on the objects which are:(a)the function ;(b)the metaphor in form;(c)tectonics. (III)Conclusion:The attitude, method and strategy in design may be shaped and formed with the coherence of the issue(I)and(II). Part II:Design With a real project(which is the re-use of the autonomy union building in Shin-Chu city), this thesis design is finally attempted to exam the concept of symbiosis, method and strategy in design which I have raised in the theoretical discussion, and further, to present an interactive status which is the juxtaposition of the newness and oldness in the environmental, architectural, and spatial aspects.
