Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 德國語文學系 === 87 === This research paper deals principally with the situations of the inferior social class urban women, maidservants and prostitutes in particular, of the late 19th century in Germany.
Under the formalized, patriarchal thoughts of the traditional society, women of higher social position were personified as beauty and purity, while those of lower social class who did physical work hard were regarded as nasty persons and fell into contempt, especially the maidservants. They usually suffered from the shackles of the conventional morality and were identified with the prostitutes who offered themselves for sexual intercourse for payment. Under the circumstances, women who came from lower class became an object on which men released their sexual desire, due to the traditional, double standards of sexual morality. The thesis takes the above issue as its standing-point and gives examples in the literatures for the references to prove the contempt and pressure, as well as the exploitation from the society on the women of lower social class in big cities of those days.
