The impact of product development could affect the future of enterprise. The current research are focusing on bring the concept of concurrent engineering to replace the traditional sequential processes. According to different demands in the product development process, designers should seek appropriate solutions. It will be helpful if designer can be offered the needed data properly throughout the process. But the capability of current searching model for design data can''t fulfill designers'' requirements. Searching design data is not only time-consuming, but also lack of structural and effective applied approaches. Therefore, the experience and resource of a design project can''t pass to the following designers, which is a great loss for the organization and the designers.A design information sharing system should base on the existing computer network system. Through the network, the system provides a more efficient and effective way for the design team and the assistant to share data and communicate. It helps all the team members to gain a better understanding of the design progress, and speed up the development process.In this study, according to the requirement of the different stages throughout the design process, we, from the industrial designer''s point of view, combined the descriptions of the design data characteristic and the relationships of the user data, and proposed the Design Information Sharing Model. Based on the application procedural and the data retrieval strategy in this model, we have developed a design supporting tool to help the designer retrieving and applying the design data simply and quickly.The Design Information Sharing Model explores the transformation of design information in concurrent engineering design process, and the technique of information sharing throughout the process. In addition, a simplified data searching method is provided to enhance the communicational effectiveness of the design team and to help the designer to transform and build up the design information format, so the design knowledge can be saved, shared and applied in the future.Keyword: Industrial Design, Design Information, Data Searching, Information Sharing
