A self-made Fixed-based Driving Simulator-I ﹙i.e. FBDS-I﹚of NCKU-TCM is employed in the study during the whole experimental process. Besides, the performances of both visual image sub-system and vehicle operation sub-system of FBDS-I have been modified and improved to benefit our driving simulation. Furthermore, the highway pavement appearance and the road traffic situation outside the test-drivers'' windscreen have been tested as well for reaching better effects to help those test-drivers to familiarize their test-driving environment. Some major findings of this study are included in the following: 1. A set of "Distance-Image Size Adjustment Procedure" is developed for generating a more realistic highway traffic environment and is justified for its effects in the end. 2. Although certain road traffic scenery in this study has been simplified in order to enhance the operation efficiency of the system, still it is convinced that the driving performance of test drivers has not been downgraded significantly. Other positive side-effects include the achievement of a more stable Simulator and the possibility of further expansion of the Simulator. 3. It is justified that the pasted appearance on the road surface can not only make those test drivers more confident while using the Simulator but enhance their motives for using the Simulator in spite of its weak effects to their driving performance. 4. No significant influence is found during the experimental period for not having enough road traffic scenery in the virtual highway environment from test drivers'' point of view.
