Through field study, the thesis can reveal what factors influence educational selection mechanism in Hong Kong and what is the matter with the educational systems in Hong Kong. Based on the objective through which some results and suggestions are included. The results are concluded thereby : 1. Equality, excellence, efficiency and choice can be criteria of an ideal educational selection mechanism. 2. Four tendencies of international educational selection mechanism are: contest selection is to replace sponsored selection, egalitarian ideology is to replace elitist ideology, grammar schools is to replace vocational schools and pursuit of excellence. 3. Political, economical, historical, cultural contexts affect educational selection mechanism in Hong Kong. 4. Educational selection mechanism in Hong Kong displays three features: elite education prior to mass education, English education prior to Chinese education and grammar education prior to vocation education.
