First of all, this paper analyzes the resonant topology of the ballast and its proper selection of switching frequency. Zero-voltage switching technique is employed to raise the ballast efficiency. Second, the utilization of K-factor approach for achieving the analysis and synthesis of dimming feedback compensation are proposed. Programmable ability of 8051 single-chip microprocessor is adopted with the photo-sensing component to realize multiple-ballast dimming system with scheduled setting function. Finally, design considerations for ballast circuit with dimming is explored. A prototype design of single-chip-controlled electronic ballast is conducted to assess the system performance. G. C.
