Summary:碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 臨床護理研究所 === 87 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the coping process of Taiwanese elderly men and their brides from mainland China .This study was based on the grounded theory.The collected interview data was obtained by using a semi-structured interview guideline.All of the Taiwanese elderly men selected for the study were:a) age 60 and above. b) living with their wives from mainland China for at least 6 months.and c) able to speak Mandarin or Taiwanese. Sample size was determined by the saturation priciple , in which twenty participants were obtained through a theoretical sampling. There was no new theme emerged after analyzing seventeen subjects interview data .But for a rigorer study, the last three cases were taken into account . The results found the core categery was 『misgiving , therefore taking precaution to protect their home』.This explained the coping process of Taiwanese elderly men and their wives from mainland China and included five categories: a)mutualism-- motivation of marriage. b) family as precarious as a pile of eggs. c) stress of marital life. d) coping strategy and e)evaluation of marital life-the wife from mainland China, her role and function was 『free-paid Chinese handmaid』. The stress of cross-strait marriage was divided into three periods: a) pre-married period, having great expectation but dread of being hurt. b) after marriage, growing crises make it hard to live.c) preparation before death, having worried about their young wives'' lives. According to these stresses, its coping strategy respectively went to :a) providing against seperation. b)grabing power and money for their family, and c)preventing and protecting their wives from being helpless after their death. From all these processes , elderly men evaluates the marital life through the identity of their wives. The finding not only provides knowlege of coping process of Taiwanese elderly men and their wives from mainland China , but also suggests futher directions for nursing interventions. In nursing, we should encourge them to make a『face to face communication』or seeking marital consulting to improve marital relationship. As for the policy, government should do something to help them to understand the law of cross-strait marriage, such as making a handbook or conducting conversazione.
