| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業設計技術研究所 === 87 === Although the development of the industrial design has been forty years, there is still no researcher has comprehensively investigated the early development of industrial design education in Taiwan. Therefore, this study aims to fill the insufficiency of the study in this field.
The early stage of the industrial design education in Taiwan is defined as the period between1960-1975 in this period, the initial training seminars in industrial design had been held by foreign experts and a lot of schools had established their formal industrial design programs. By using the method of oral history, the pioneers who had been trained in those seminars and then taught industrial design in schools have been interviewed. Most of the people interviewed in this study are over the age of 60. Through analyzing and summarizing the oral information collected from the interviews as well as the supporting materials provided by the interviewees, this study has achieved: 1.the finding of motives of the schools in setting up industrial design in the early stage; 2.the construction of a relation network of industrial design educators among these schools; 3.the credits of contribution of the industrial design educators in early stage of Taiwan; 4.the edition of a list of the important events of the industrial design education in Taiwan, from 1960 to 1975.
The study can be served as the reference for the design students to understand the early industrial design history in Taiwan and guide the development direction of the industrial design in the future. Through the understanding of design history, we will recognize and cherish more deeply our own design culture.
