However, if the frost layer is too thick, it could become a heat insulator which will reduce the heat exchange and refrigeration efficiency. If the frost formation is not properly controlled and continues to grow, the fan could be stuck by the frost or ice and fail to spin. It will cause overloading or burning of fan motor, as a result, the refrigeration system will be completely failure. A proper selection of defrosting method and precise control of defrost cycle will significantly help the warehouse refrigeration efficiency and energy saving. Using a temperature sensor to monitor the frost layer thickness, a pressure sensor at the low pressure end of compressor to monitor the frost growth, a remote PC BASED data acquisition system, PC network, and a graphical user interface PID and control system, this study is to develop a 3-phase SCR driver control system to closely control the defrosting, with an objective of saving energy and improving warehouse refrigeration efficiency.
