Description
Summary:碩士 === 元智大學 === 機械工程研究所 === 87 === The purpose of the present study is to investigate the pollutant discharges of four heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cr and Cd) from two municipal waste incinerators located in the north of Taiwan and its impact on the ambient air. Samples were collected inside the stacks and on the leeward of the incinerators(2 to 3 km away). The sampling procedures to collect data in the stacks are based on the US EPA methods 5, 12 and 29, with some adjustment so as to meet practical situations occurred in Taiwan. Besides, the procedure of high volume sampler operation was used to collect data on the leeward of the incinerators. All samples were analyzed with Graphite Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. In addition, all the sampling and analyzing procedures are guaranteed by quality assurance and quality control procedures promulgated by the Environmental Protection agency (EPA) in Taiwan. The results from incinerator A indicated that the concentration of Lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu) in the stack are in the range of 26.45~39.92μg/Nm3, and 153.54~192.02μg/Nm3, respectively. The concentrations of four heavy metals on the leeward of incinerator A are as follows, Lead (Pb):0.0018~0.0322μg/Nm3, Copper (Cu):0.0042~0.0935μg/Nm3, Chrome (Cr):0.0061~0.0347μg/Nm3, and Cadmium (Cd):0.00002~0.00131μg/Nm3. The concentrations of the heavy metals in the stack B are as follows, Lead:2.51~8.77μg/Nm3, Copper:3.41~16.64μg/Nm3, Chrome:2.74~191.76μg/Nm3, and Cadmium:0.62~0.3789μg/Nm3. The concentrations on the leeward of incinerator B are as follows, Lead:0.0303~0.197μg/Nm3, Copper:0.032~0.3789μg/Nm3, Chrome:0.004~0.164μg/Nm3, and Cadmium:0.00085~0.00536μg/Nm3. All the measured data obtained either from the stacks or on the leeward ambient air meet the standards promulgated by the EPA. It is also recommended by the present research that the ambient air quality be under a long-term monitor program in the neighborhood of all incinerators and that the assessment of impact on environment of the incinerators be done before the incinerators are built to minimize pollution effect.
