It is require a simultaneous consideration of these costs that we mentioned above, we adopt Response Surface Methodology (RSM) which is a combination of mathematical and statistical techniques, apply simulation software to obtain experimental values and use statistical software to analyze experimental results. Most of the literature on this subject assume that the process mean is equal to the target value, but it is incorrect for quality characteristic is as asymmetric loss to set process mean to be the target value. So we apply a gearbox assembly in our study. We assume that the assembly function is known and quality characteristic is as asymmetric loss. We considered process tolerance and process mean as decision variables, followed by evaluating affection of both for design, we can estimate minimum assembly cost and obtain the optimal process tolerance, process mean and critical components which affect assembly cost. In the period of product design, the designers can do something to modify product by the information that we obtained. At last, the result enables the designer to have feedback and to revise product design. The goal of quality improvement, circle time reduction and lower cost can be achieved.
