A virtual environments (VE) is designed for functioning as a three dimensional interface to a repository of images and sounds. Virtual environments (VEs) is defined as “An environments is that which surroundings participants, the set of conditions and objects participants can perceive and with which participants can interact”(Stuart 1996). This essay attempts to study the spatial form and design interface of VEs. The relationship between physical and virtual environments are also studied. The relationship between both is classfied as three types, i.e. compliments, replacements, or independence. Then it establishes the design interafce in VEs, and presents an experimental project, the virtual architecture museum(VAM). Two elements of VEs are highlighted, i.e. navigation, linkages. In VAM, the interface is implemented on the web and is integrated by the concept of architecture database. It is found that the appropriateness of design interface can enhance the users’ spatial awareness, and consequently facilitate the task of navigation and wayfinding within VEs. This essay include five chapters are as follows: (1) By analyzing the spatial form of physical and virtual environment, the path structure and hierarchy order can be denoted. In the designing of virtual Suzhou river, based on the transform of spatial structure. The design is aim of to clarify the relationship between scene and linkage. (2) Define the VEs style by the following emergences of cyberspace, include perspective theory; modern art theory and media theory. Then setting spatial elements of the scene and linkage in design interface. The scene is presented in three type; i.e. Icon; Flow; Landscape. (3) Program of VAM includes the function settings; exhibitions content; path structure; scene and linkages setting.VAM have four basic function: exhibition; education; deposit and research. The VAM is compliments to physical museum. (4) The designing of VAM is attempt to build the spatial form and design interface of VEs. The spatial form is base on transform of path structure. The design also attempt to achieve the tasks of navigation and linkages in VEs. (5) Discussions: 1.Desigener’s can make creativity in design interface of VEs. 2.The users’ spatial awareness in VEs. 3.The functions and performance in design interface of VEs. The conclusion of design are as follows: (1)VEs provide the designers perform their creativity. (2)The design interface of VEs have unique style. (3) The appropriateness of design interface can enhance the users’ spatial awareness. The future work of this study can process the design of other kinds of VEs. i.e. virtual community; virtual school; virtual theatre. The more use of the image media crafts in VEs. The social interaction in VEs also requires the more indepth studies. Maolin Chiu 邱茂林 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 108 zh-TW
