Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 歷史學研究所 === 88 === It is a sharp comparison between the prosperous phenomenon in the contemporary society in Taiwan with the shortage in the daily life when the central government of Republic of China just retreated to the island in 1959. Take the textile industry as an example, with the support from government policy, many entrepreneurs have developed the textile industry from none to a mature status that could export to the world during the past four decades. The focus of the industry development in Taiwan, however, has shifted to the high tech industry such as electronics industry nowadays. Some people even claimed that the textile industry as a sunset industry -- since many owners in the textile industry have changed their business lines or moved their factories to overseas. A major objective of this thesis is to study the interaction between the development of the textile industry and the industry policy of the Taiwan’s government. A brief history of Taiwan textile industry is restructured through the discussion of the production systems in the textile industry as well as the background study of some textile companies, accompanied with a case study from Tuntex Incorporation. This thesis also depicts the contribution of the development of textile industry, from spending foreign exchanges to import textiles, till the status of self-sufficiency, and then being able to export textiles to earn foreign exchanges, and finally becoming an internationalized industry, to the economic growth in Taiwan. The meaning of the textile industry is significant to Taiwan’s history. The process of transferring from a policy oriented to the market oriented in the textile industry is also unique among various industries in Taiwan. The statement of the industry transfer in this research is based on the Braudel’s model, because the concept proposed in this thesis is similar to his concept of commerce center transferring process, which was used to restructure the development of the European capitalism.
