How to maintain that leadership position in the fiercely competitive international arena? Of course, product quality plays a critical role in such an endeavor. Questionnaires were used in this study to survey two important quality implementation activities of semiconductor industry in Taiwan, i.e. Quality Management Practices (QMP) and Total Quality Management (TQM), so as to have an understanding of its current status. The result shows that there is a significant positive correlation between QMP and TQM. Manufacturers that launched TQM do have a higher chance of winning the quality prizes. Besides, most semiconductor manufacturers seldom bring in the latest quality technology on their own and even fail to thoroughly implement their training programs related to quality management techniques such as Design of Experience, Taguchi Method and Regression Analysis. In the area of supplier management, single supplier policy has not generally been adopted in semiconductor industry in Taiwan. This results in poor quality of incoming material as well as poor working relationship with suppliers. This study also finds that the manufacturers do not usually adopt quality data to appraise the performance of their employees. In order to correct the above-mentioned deficiencies, top management must pay more attention to quality practices. In doing so, the semiconductor industry in Taiwan can then sustain their edge and thus empower their competitiveness. Chao -Ton Su 蘇朝墩 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 63 zh-TW
