Summary: | 碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 傳播所 === 88 === This research is to construct the typologies of computer flaming. The present researcher reviewed the literatures to define the flaming in the computer-mediated communication context, and analyzed the basic elements of flaming. Combining "the degree of violence of flaming" with "the participants'' scale of flaming"、"the length of flaming"、"the continuing time of flaming" and "the result of flaming" each, four groups of CMC flaming were constructed. Then, 50 flaming cases were selected and their content was analyzed to verify the proposed typologies of CMC flaming.
The present researcher considered flaming as a form of miscommunication, also a form of conflict, and defined flaming as followed:flaming occurs in the context of CMC, in which miscommunication easily happens. Whenever participants'' opinions on a topic are disputant with each other, that is, the intension of a speaker doesn''t match the interpreation of a listener, they use hositle verbals to attack one another. The result of flaming may either be positive, or negative.
This research analysed the basic elements of flaming from six dimensions:the context of flaming, the participants of flaming, the issue of flaming, the degree of violence of flaming, the development of flaming, and the result of flaming.
Because "hostile verbal attack" is the most important characteristic of flaming, this research combined "the degree of violence of flaming" with "the participants'' scale of flaming"、"the length of flaming"、"the continuing time of flaming" and "the result of flaming" each, four groups of CMC flaming were constructed, and different names were given to each of them.
Then, 50 flaming cases were selected and their content was analyzed to verify the proposed typologies of CMC flaming. The result showed that the four groups of flaming typology were appriate, the name of each flaming type was quite representive to its characteristics.
Finally, the limitations of this research were discussed and the suggestions on future researches were supplied.
