Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate (a) elementary teachers'' computer anxiety and coping with the anxiety, (b) the effects of teachers'' background variables on computer anxiety and ways of coping, and (c) the relationship between teachers'' computer anxiety and ways of coping. The sample included 767 teachers in Taoyuan county. The instrument was " The Elementary Teachers'' Computer Anxiety and Ways of Coping Scale". These data was analyzed with mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and canonical correlation analysis.
The findings are as follows:
1. The elementary teachers'' computer anxiety is below the average, they have higher degree on "computer test anxiety", and lower degree on "learning computer anxiety".
2. For coping with the computer anxiety, the elementary teachers usually use "seeking support", "problem resolving", "self adjusting", and selfdom use "avoidance ".
3. Gender, educational degree, academic major, school size, teaching experience, personal computer, and computer experience have significant effects on computer anxiety, but service area and duty have no significant effect on computer anxiety.
4. Gender, educational degree, academic major, school size, service area, teaching experience, duty, personal computer, and computer experience all have significant effects on ways of coping.
5. There are significant differences about ways of coping among different levels of teachers'' computer anxiety.
6. There is significant correlation between computer anxiety and ways of coping for the elementary teachers .
7. There is significant canonical correlation between computer anxiety and ways of coping for the elementary teachers.
Based on the study results, some recommendations for the teachers training college, educational agencies, elementary schools and teachers, and further study are suggested.
