The Self-Understanding Scales (SUS), the Achievement Motivation Scales, and the Preparation for Incoming Exam Questionnaire were administered to 516 sixth grades from 16 elementary schools in Changhua. High- and low-feeling of inferiority children were identified by the SUS scores. Data (responses which from 129 children with high- and 129 children with low-feeling of inferiority) were analyzed by using Hotelling''''s T2, estimation of confidence intervals, andχ2 tests. Results were as follows: 1.Children with low feeling of inferiority were found to have higher task orientation and self-enhancing orientation than children with high feeling of inferiority. There were no differences in self-defensive orientation and avoidance orientation between children with high- and low-feeling of inferiority. 2.On maintenance of motivation, there were differences in persistence time, persistence motive, the exertion of effort, the motive of effort, emotional reactions, and no differences in cognition between children with high- and low-feeling of inferiority. Finally, some suggestions for learning guidance and the directions for future research are made based on the findings and the limitations of this study.
