| Summary: | 碩士 === 臺東師範學院 === 兒童文學研究所 === 88 === The research is working on all of John Burningham''s story picture books. First, to analyze the author''s own creating language, and then to examine how the verbal and visual signs work together to tell a story in his works. Finally it will discuss how the relationships between these two signs to form the author''s creating style.
The analysis will be two parts：the first one is going to examine all story plots and characters to sort out the narrative attitude and ideology shown in the text. Next, according to the storytelling line---the unique one used in picture books that verbal text and visual text together tells a complete story, to find out the principles that John Burningham uses in his works. Furthermore, by his principles, if any effects or atmosphere will be shown in a picture book? That will be figured out, too .
