The main sources of leather factory wastes are sludge and shaving scurf in the repairing, cutting and rubbing procedure. The additive chromate in the most process of making leather can be partly recycle and by pass, but the leftover still remain in the wastes and leather sludge, so the total chrome of leather wastes is rather high. However, the Environment Protection Bureau has list the leather industry to be one of the toxicity characteristic industry wastes enterprise organization. Thus, it would harm to the environment if taking no careful and skillful process to the leather wastes.
This study selects leather sludge and shaving to precede experiment. After different incineration conditions (temperature, the air content, and the Na2CO3 quantity added to proceed combustion), the ashes is washed by the water and 0.001M NaOH (aq) to recovery chrome. And we try to realize the effect of chrome recycle on incineration of leather wastes with Na2CO3 and washing the ashes with different pH liquor.
Experiment Result: Under the incineration conditions of shaving scurf fixed, the efficiency of Cr (Ⅵ) recovery is better when the ashes is washed by 0.001M NaOH(aq) than by water. We can get that the best efficiency of Cr (Ⅵ) recovery is the best (91.18%), when the incineration conditions of shaving scurf are at 850°C, the air ratio (the quantity of air supplied / the quantity of air thermal) = 1, the Na2CO3 ratio (the quantity of Na2CO3 added / the quantity of Na2CO3 thermal) = 100% and the ashes washed by 0.001M NaOH(aq). On the other hand, he best efficiency of Cr (Ⅵ) recovery is the best (57.22%), when the incineration conditions of shaving scurf are at 950°C, the air ratio (the quantity of air supplied / the quantity of air thermal) = 2, the Na2CO3 ratio (the quantity of Na2CO3 added / the quantity of Na2CO3 thermal) = 100% and the ashes washed by water.
