The system is composed of the photovoltaic modules, batteries, DC chopper, voltage source inverter and digital signal processor. This system uses a maximum power point tracking technique based on the gradient method to continuously apply the maximum power of the photovoltaic modules. The output power of the photovoltaic modules is used as the input voltage of the battery charger and the voltage source inverter. The charge equalization technique for series connected battery strings is adopted to charge the batteries. The voltage space vectors pulsewidth modulation method is used to minimize the current harmonic distortion and effectively utilized DC bus voltage of inverter. Moreover, a diagnosis method based on the output current of the inverter is used to detect the inverter faults. Utilizing voltage source inverter, the photovoltaic system can deliver power to the utility, and it can help to reduce the summer peak power supplied from utility equipment.
