碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 運動教練研究所 === 88 === This study was to analyze and compare the official results of the Men’s and Women’s 400M Hurdles of the 1999 World Championships in Athletic With the relationship between different trials and reaction time. The results are as follows： : 1. There was no significance difference（P>0.05）between trails and reaction time in both Men’s and Women’s events which indicate that the result of the 400M Hurdles are not affected by reaction time. 2. There are significant differences（P>0.05） in the eight finalists of the Men’s event in different trials with the best result in the final whereas the semi-finals are better than the preliminary trails with level of significance difference （P>0.05）. 3. There were significant differences （P>0.05） in the eight finalists of the Women’s event in different trails with the best result in the final. There are no significance difference （P>0.05） between the semi-finals and the preliminary trails by the time difference of 0.43 seconds and between the final and the semi-finals by the time difference of 0.44 seconds. However there is the significance difference（P>0.05） between the final and the preliminary trails. 4. The results indicate that both the athletes of the Men’s and Women’s 400M. Hurdlers try to reserve their energy and physical strength for the finals and with little intention in breaking the record during preliminary trails and semi-finals.
