Fist, businesses only provide on-line ordering, 2) businesses employs cryptographic mechanisms to support on-line ordering and payment for customers, and 3) not only one-line ordering and payment but delivery for goods are included. Software may be the most suitable good for the third type due to its possibilities in on-line delivery. From our surveys of current literature, there are no appropriate solutions for customers to on-line purchase software and download the licensed software. Therefore, we propose a fair and practical protocol for on-line purchase of licensed software. We apply non-repudiation mechanisms in our protocol to ensure fair trade between a software provider and a customer. In other words, customer must pay the bill, and the software provider must give the licensed information after both parties achieve an agreement. Besides, a user is required to input his credit card number and licensed information before he installs the software. This design may frustrate an authorized user in sharing the licensed software with illegal user, since he has to risk his credit card number to others. To sum up, our protocol not only supports on-line ordering and payment for software but also decreases the possibility of unauthorized users to use the legal software. Finally, we hope this research will inspire more researches on the third type of electronic transactions and create a more diversified environment for electronic commerce.
