In order to carry out the making of scholastic researches and training of the talented persons of adult education, the professional institutions of adult education have been establishing sustainingly. However, how are the research development of the three schools including the Graduate Institute of Adult & Continuing Education of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), National Chung Cheng University (NCCU), and National Kaohsing Normal University (NKNU)?What are the differences of contents and formats of the adult education master’s theses among these three universities?Which suggestions that the researchers give to the library?What is the role and assignment of the library in serving the adult education researchers and promoting the related activities for the adult education? The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the contents and the states of the development of the 201 adult education master’s theses, and 23,058 references from NTNU, NCCU, and NKNU. Besides also analysize their suggestions for the library. It is hoped that it will serve as a reference for the adult education graduate students, the administrators of the Graduate Institutions of Adult & Continuing Education, and the librarians. The Content Analysis and Comparative Study were used as the study’s main research methods, with the assistance of the Citation Analysis. “The content analysis checklist of Adult education master’s theses” was used to gather data. Data which was analysized by Frequency Distribution and Percentage, and Descriptive Statistics. The result of the study revealed that the total number of the adult education master’s theses had been grown up apparently since 1995. The main six research topics of the adult education master’s theses are The Introduction to Adult Education, Woman Education, Other Social or Adult Education Institutions, Adult Basic Education, The Elder Education and Adult Learning & Psychology. The most three frequently used research methods are Questionnaire Survey, Documentary Analysis and Interview Survey. The most two used statistical frequency methods are Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis and Distribution and Percentage. SPSS is the most used computerized statistical software. Most of the researches are the practical ones. The research tool extracts from other resources. Taiwan area is the main object of the adult education master’s theses. APA is the tendency of the format of dissertation writing. Books, serials, dissertations, CD databases and microfilms are the main material types of the references. The languages of the references are mainly both Chinese and English. Most of the references had been published since 1981. The most used Chinese authors of the references are Hwang, Fu-Shuen and the Ministry of Education, while English author is M. S. Knowles. The majority numbers of the researches about library are from the Graduate Institute of Adult & Continuing Education of NTNU. The suggestions for the library include providing facilities with the supply matirials, being the place of adult education activities, learning and guiding the use of library and cooperating with other adult education institutions. Lastly, according to the results of the study, suggesting : 1) library in serving the adult education researchers which including the acquisitive selection of library’s collections, library information services and the promotion of adult education activities, and 2) the adult education graduate students, and the administrators of Graduate Institute of Adult & Continuing Education. Suggestion is also provided for the future related studies.
