This enabled Americans to enjoy prosperity. Thus, the lives of Americans become wealthier. There was an inevitable trend with the rising of popular culture and anti-culture apparent in the social development. The Pop artists in New York started from American popular culture and led art to a brand new start. Andy Warhol who is the center of this thesis was the most controversial artist of that time, and on the other hand, the best example for Pop art. The first chapter focuses on Warhol''''s chronological development as an artist. Before becoming a Pop artist, the impact on his later art works from his school education and his working at the advertisement agent. Besides painting, Warhol also was in the underground movie industry. By the seventies, like all the pioneers of post-modern art, he reassembled his own works. Chapter two depicts the social and cultural background of Warhol''''s art and their influence. We can analyze the impact of social environment on Andy Warhol''''s art by investigating the social influence of the industrialized civilization, Popular Culture in the sixties and the American Pop Art. Chapter three concludes from the previous two chapters that Andy Warhol''''s art has four features: the duplication of images from Popular culture, recurrent images, replacement of human labor with machines, and the commercial trend relish. Besides from examining these features, this thesis goes on to demonstrate Warhol''''s effect on the subsequent art development. The fourth chapter shows the importance of Warhol''''s art and its meanings changing through different time and spaces by analyzing some important critics on Warhol''''s art. 王哲雄 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 179 zh-TW
