Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is considered the most suitable transport technique for the future broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN), due to its ability to flexibly support a wide range of services with quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees. The combination of wireless communications and ATM, especially in local-area environments, can provide freedom of mobility with service advantages and QoS guarantees. An improtant system design issue for wireless ATM systems in general, is the design of an efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol for the radio interface. This protocol should be able to support all ATM services with often conflicting requirements, and guarantee the required QoS for each connection. It should also guarantee fairness and allocate bandwidth efficiently and dynamically. Two MAC protocols (DSA++ and MASCARA) are promising candidates for HIPERLAN Type 2. Both of these MAC protocols use a combination of contention and reservation access on the physical channel and are based on the same principle. This paper selects a reservation algorithm, which can be used in DSA++, and compare the performance of these two MAC protocols. Prof. Chienhua Chen 陳建華 2000 學位論文 ; thesis 68 zh-TW |

碩士 === 大同大學 === 通訊工程研究所 === 88 === ABSTRACT
Broadband and mobile communications are presently the two major drivers in the telecommunications industry.
