Besides the performances and creations is growing abundantly, the criticism of Performing Arts are also rising. The most obvious fact is that Min Sheng Daily established "The group of Min Sheng drama criticism" in September, 1996. It is the first fixed mechanism that was set up by news media. Then, The China Times, The Liberty Times, and United Daily News had imitated, also had burgeoning internet media. In the past, owing to the environment of Performing Arts were not mature, newspaper put much emphasis on reporting than criticism. As a result, criticism became eulogized somebody''s virtues and achievements or introductions to performances. With the environment is getting mature and Performing Arts gain more public resources recently, the superintendent function of criticism has gained much attention by Performing Arts sphere. Accordingly, this research take the case of Min Sheng Daily to study the criticism of Performing Arts of newspaper in Taiwan. The purposes of the research are: (1) What is the appearance of Performing Arts criticism of the culture page in Min Sheng Daily? And what are the relations between criticism and the ecology of Performing Arts? (2) Who are the working group and what is the production process and direction? (3) Who are the critics? What are their standard of selection? How to choose critics? What is the standard of Performing Arts? (4) If the organization system of Min Sheng Daily, readers , Performing Arts groups will influence upon criticism? The research employed literature analysis, depth interview, and content analysis. The researcher interviewed 6 gatekeepers, including journalists, the head of culture page, the chief editor, and the publisher. The research found: (1) In the criticism part: Drama criticism place an essential role, and critical content emphasis on local productions and the north, but criticism wasn''t regarded as an importance role. The criticism of Performing Arts just occupy less page. (2) In the critics part: It also draws some attention to the complicated accomplice structure of playing players and umpires at the same time. The critics come from diverse fields: some are scholars, some are professionals, some come from media, and some are judges who examine subsidies to Performing Arts groups. (3) Journalists are not only gatekeepers but also conveners of criticism group. As a result, Journalists play the important role of criticism production process. They have direct influence on choosing production and critics. (4) The employment role of the organization of Min Sheng Daily has less influence on criticism. Journalists, the head of culture page, the chief editor, and the publisher have full authority. The were not influenced by readers and Performing Arts groups.
