Speckle interferometry techniques have been in use for many years, especially, electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) recently. However, several common problems still exist and are needed to be improved. In this thesis, several techniques have been proposed and proved effective while ESPI signal being processed. A formulation of deformation-induced phase difference by speckle fields before and after the deformation is formulated. An innovative filtering technique, which is based on an adaptive nature, has been proposed and proved very powerful for the filtering of phase map with numerous inconsistencies, e.g., those obtained from ESPI technique. Furthermore, a novel phase unwrapping algorithm based on a region-referenced criterion has been successfully proposed to unwrap phase map with severe inconsistency directly regardless any corrupt pixels. These newly developed methods are largely capable for phase map, and they work quite well even when the human eyes cannot clearly recognize the phase jumps.
