Microsatellite loci have a high degree of variability with hypervariable in length, this property made them extremely popular for studying population genetics, medicine, and forensic analysis. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a standard model in the study of the genetic mechanisms governing eukaryotic cell life, and is the first eukaryotic cell whose genome is entirely sequenced. By using GCG software, we examined extensively the dispersion profile of all dinucleotide repeats containing at least 8 nucleotides and annotated their spreading locations in each yeast chromosome. In this work, we have first examined the distribution of all dinucleotide repeat combinations in each yeast chromosome. As the result, the frequencies of dinucleotide repeats in yeast chromosomes could be divided into three groups with AA/TT/AT, AC/AG/TC/ TG, and CC/GG/CG, the same as the coverage of dinucleotide repeats. AA and TT dinucleotide repeats occur on average about once every 2.5 kb while AT tracts occur about 3.5-5.5 kb.
