The technique includes the body scanning, geometric re-construction, feature recognizing, and tape measuring. However, the measurement still have to be conducted manually. The only difference is now we use scanned data points instead of real human body. The anthropometric data will be subjective to human experience, and the result should have poor repeativity. Further, the scanned data set is very huge. To overcome these problems, we developed an automatic anthropometric system, and constructed an electronic mannequin based on the body’s feature. The structured data set can be easily stored, retrieved, handling, and transported over internet. The goal of our research is to construct a simple computer mannequin which contains all the body’s features that can be used for human factor design. In this paper, we encoded and then reduced the size of the scanned data from body scanner. The non-lossy compression method enable the scanned data to be transported on the web that is most suitable for e-commerce. We extracted and separated the data set into several meaningful body part. The void that not be seen by body scanner was fixed by an interpolation method. According to the garment design literatures, we translated the definitions of body features into mathematic descriptions. According to the mathematic definitions, a standardized method was developed to find the features points and feature lines of human body. The scanned data set was then divided into feature lines that passes through those feature points. A concise structured data set is then created. The anthropometric data can be readily obtained from the structured data set. The system can be used as an automatic body measurement system. In this study, the results from automatic measurement were compared with those measured by hand.
