This is also the emerging trend to support management and coordination of engineering activity between departments and allied enterprises. However, for the implementation of videoconference assisted engineering data management for a cross-country allied virtual enterprise, network bandwidth is an important issue and need to be explicitly considered. This thesis provides a new model for media integration to coordinate real-time audio, video and engineering data generated during videoconference based on ISDN. To perform some explicitly authenticated operation for engineering data coordination and management, a Web-based engineering data management system is developed to access back-end database systems. Finally, the proposed two systems are integrated in a unified user interface to construct an application with real-time and non real-time collaborative management mechanism. The proposed application has been tested and proved to be stable. The distributed object-oriented architecture also provides flexibility and scalability in the future.
