However, such an insurance system doesn’t necessary fit in our situation. We wonder if Taiwan community elders and their families demand for long-term care insurance and try to find out the related factors behind. A sample of 352 community elders and 298 of their family members ,which were on behalf of the all community elders and their families in 7 northern counties of Taiwan, were interviewed by telephone. The valid corresponding rates are 61.50% and 52.19%. The result reveals that most of the community elders never heard of the long-term care insurance and had no idea about its context; on the other side, 84.80% of their families never heard of the term but 55.70% of the family members supported the government initiate the long-term care insurance. But, when it came to the requirement degree of the long-term care insurance, both the community elders and their families had less 50% of possibility to demand for long-term care insurance immediately. The main factors related to demand for the long-term care insurance are birdcall, county and sex in the community elders’ part; and age, education, birthplace, county, personal income, family income, job & whether living with the elder in the families’ part. The suggestion that the authorities concerned should enhance the conception of long-term care insurance of community elders and their families, and may seek other substitute solutions to the long-term care financial puzzle.
