Typically index surface quality includes: the surface residual stress, the surface micro-hardness, surface roughness, etc. These qualities describe the physical characteristics of a surface, which are correlated with each other. The relative interaction between cutting grain on the grinding wheel surface and the workpiece surface material determines the surface quality of ground components, which is directly related the both grinding and dressing operation during the operation. Equivalent parameters for both grinding and dressing found in the literature seem to be a good observer for the description of grinding behavior. These were used to assist the exploration in this study. A quantitative predicting model for generated surface quality would than be developed for this study and which can be used to improve surface quality control of a precision component.
