When companies execute process analysis and re-engineering, they usually adopt the most pervasive Object-Oriented (OO) technologies as tools. However, during the analysis and re-engineering, it is still more artistic than engineering. Since the process analysis mainly depends on the analysts’ experience, it usually results in poor analysis quality. Furthermore, how to effectively communicate with the supervisors and operation personnel plays a critical role in process analysis. To overcome these difficulties, analysts need a more complete and systematic knowledge characteristic structure (KCS) and analysis steps to represent and descript a problem domain. Much research in process analysis have focused on the Ontology-Based methodology recently. In early analysis stages, Ontology-Based methodology emphasizes the importance to link up with domain knowledge and domain know-how. Furthermore, it constructs a set of vocabulary words regarding the intended meaning to explicate tacit knowledge and descript the problem domain. Therefore, this research proposes a methodology which contains five stages for business process analysis: 1.construct a business process knowledge characteristic structure; 2.describe the current business processes; 3.define the problem domain structure; 4.describe the business process behaviors and rules; 5.describe the results of business process analysis. The proposed methodology can be expected to bridge the gap between analysts and operation personnel.
