Possible competitive strategy offered by the enterprises and the solution to intellectual property right associated with P2P are also discussed. P2P architecture grew with the advent of the Internet. The abundant information embedded in the traditional Client/Server structure can now be better accessed and utilized by the users through the assist of P2P. Through information distribution and file sharing, the gap between supply and demand are bridged, and therefore users can have better control of the resources and the market. Enterprises’ operation models are also altered with the appearance of P2P. With the smooth online communication, resource allocations are no longer a constraint. With the timely and accurate information, enterprises can make decisions more efficiently. P2P relies heavily on information exchanges between peers and thus bears strong network externality. When positioning themselves, enterprises should consider resources that are beneficial to the growth of the company. In addition, they should determine the right balance between centralized and decentralized allocation of resources to create the most value for the company. The efficient communication provided by P2P, however, aggravates the problem of intellectual property rights infringement. Regarding this issue Professor Lawrence Lessig offers a solution from the perspectives of market, norm, architecture and law. Based on the consideration of the environment, direct or indirectly regulation is suggested to arrive at the best balance between society cost and intellectual property right protection.
