The method is applied to discuss not only the effects on basic ground bounce, due to various factors such as switching time of circuit elements, the presence of decoupling capacitor, and the resonant of shorting via, but also to evaluate the electrical characteristic of integral decoupling capacitor in multi-layer structures. Then the analysis is applied to model signal propagating down the signal via in multi-layer environment. The ground bounce model is combined with telegrapher’s equations of transmission line and the equivalent circuit of via discontinuity which is extracted by applying quasi-TEM method. The composite effects of reflected noise by via discontinuity and ground bounce between power/ground planes are investigated. Finally, a new model is proposed to discuss the signal integrity issues due to the split power plane, including microstrip line/slotline coupling and slotline/ground bounce coupling. In addition, the simulated results of basic ground bounce have been compared with the experimental data to demonstrate the accuracy and flexibility of present analysis.
