Frequency synthesizers are widely used in wireless communication and measurement equipment. Fractional-N PLL frequency synthesis is one significant approach to achieve fast settling time and high resolution. In this thesis, two novel approaches and algorithms to implement fractional-N synthesizers are proposed and verified. One is taking the advantages of dithering the periodic fractional spurious noise from PN sequence. The other is taking the advantages of separating the first pair of fractional spurs. These two approaches are simple, low cost and easy to be integrated with all-digital circuits design.
