Most general issues on syntax and morphology are included in the agenda of the present investigation of various formal behaviours of Vudai grammar. The semantic aspects of syntax and morphology serve as the base on which the grammar of Vudai could be deeply analysed and extensively synthesised. By swinging back and forth between micro analysis and macro synthesis, description, explanation and evaluation of individual particularity and general tendency gradually shape. And by unceasingly alternating between formal and conceptual perspectives, the configuration and the significance of grammatical systems are recognised. Form and meaning, as well as particularity and generality, therefore assume the relationship of mutual implication. Since neither facet sufficiently allocates the other, causality should give way to interdependence in speculating the ontology and the development of entangled grammatical phenomena. This is the philosophy most characteristic of this thesis. When pursued into their profundities, all areas of grammar are inevitably obscured by the most recondite difficulty as such, and this thesis would try to reveal by reference to Vudai grammar any such dilemma that is probably encountered during the study of language. Furthermore, the role of linguist, specifically their plausible choice in response to the analytical indeterminacy and its feedback to the character of grammatical systems, would be emphasised again and again. In practice, analytical indeterminacy originating in interpretative fluidity, which is widely acknowledged as an intrinsic property typical of symbolic systems in general, can be fixed with respect to the paradigmaticity that is substantially manifested by grammar. Then, all parts of grammar, along with the bound between linguistics and linguist, should be taken in a holistic viewpoint. In this vein, this thesis may also be regarded as reflection on the attitude and methodology explicit or implicit in the linguistic epistemic community. 江文瑜 2001 學位論文 ; thesis 361 en_US |
