This thesis examines consumer behavior from the following six perspectives:(1) the understanding of renovation operations and procedures, (2) the recognition of housing renovation needs, (3) the search for renovation companies, (4) the evaluation of renovation companies, (5) the final choice of renovation companies, (6) the satisfaction with renovation results. A questionnaire survey was conducted to study “1995 population and residency survey”. Questionnaires were distributed to randomly chosen residents and data from 540 residents were collected. After studying and analyzing the survey data, the conclusions are as followed: 1.The understanding of renovation operations and procedures: Basically, the residents of Taipei have roughly known about the profession of renovation and the required procedures for service providing. The consumers also knew how to protect their rights by monitoring the renovation services. 2.The recognition of housing renovation needs: The reasons why the residents of Taipei would like to employ companies to renovate are put in order as “drainpipe and electricity problem”, “decoration damage or age”, and “unsatisfied with original utilizing the space”. Moreover, the main types of renovation are “re-decoration” and “repair utility”. 3.The search for renovation companies: When Taipei residents looked for renovation contractor, about 50% of them inquired just one company for related information. As to the resource of potential renovation contractors, Taipei residents mainly relied on the referral from relatives or friends and mainly question the mason. Taipei residents also tended to be attracted by the content of advertisements with guaranteed high quality, respect of consumer right, and excellent service attitude. 4.The evaluation of renovation companies: When Taipei residents evaluated renovation contractors, they focused on contractor''s attitude, expertise, and their previous experiences, referrals from friends or relatives. 5.The final choice of renovation companies: Taipei residents tended to choose masons as their contractors. 6.The satisfaction with renovation results: During the consuming of housing renovation process, there are several factors Taipei residents are especially concerned: “contractor''s respect”, “detailed expense report”, “excellent technical skill”, “job concentration”. Taipei residents expected to receive fully satisfied service. However, after the housing renovation, most of Taipei residents felt only slightly satisfied. As a result, “the accuracy of renovation”, “the providing of service contract”, and “service trial” are three important items that renovation companies should put in the priority when they provide the renovation service in the future.
