As these networks start to carry various types of data traffic that have differing characteristics. Policy-based network offer a solution for the management of QoS services across IP networks. This thesis discusses the architecture of the policy-based network and presents the design, implementation and evaluation of a prototype in Linux. Specifically, we implement a novel signature-based packet classification. The experiments show that our prototype cans achieve twenty thousands packets per second.
