The proposed Product Design Data Model includes the functional data, the structural data, and the management data. The functional data describes design purposes, functions, behavior, and rationale of product. The structural data represents the composition of the product and the properties of objects. The management data maintains and controls the model data of design process. The proposed design data model can serve as the basis for concurrent engineering assessment. According to this STEP-based data model, related product design data could be systematically organized, and exchanged among design collaborators. The life-cycle of design contains several stages, we demonstrate the application of the proposed Product Design Data Model for Design for Serviceability. DFS addresses the influence of service modes including the effect of the component failure on functional loss and the direct service cost. This thesis applies Quality Function Deployment to estimate the importance of task component, and apply the concept of Failure Mode Effect and Analysis to identify key component of higher risk. Through the maintainable analysis of maintenance frequency, steps, and relevant cost, we can find out the bottleneck in the terms of parts module and maintenance procedures. In order to automate the serviceability assessment, the construction of product design data model compare with theory of serviceability inference could analyze failure of parts and the choke point of service, and further to evaluate the serviceability of product design.
