In the family life there will be many sharing opportunities due to the brotherhood relationship. However, as time goes on, due to the actual practice of birth control, advancement of abortion method and many other reasons have caused increasing number of families with only child. The only child has lacked opportunities to learn sharing with brothers or sisters and other sort of altruistic social behavior. On the other hand, parents have spoiled these children, supplying all their demands. Therefore this research concerns to investigate whether this will affect development of sharing behavior for the only child. Besides, most of the family has transformed from big family to small family. In the small family, parents are mostly the first and major party to get in touch with children, therefore parents’ style in rearing will directly influence children’s behavior and personality development for sure. There are many researches suggest that parent should cope children’s temperament to proper teaching. The major external environment to influence infant’s development process is the family life. During the daily family life, parental child-rearing style play the most influencing role to children. As a matter of fact, parents’ educating style is a kind of interacting process between parents and their children. In this interacting process, parents’ attitudes and behaviors in handling their children influence children’s temperament development. At the same time parental child-rearing style influences children’s temperament. Hence, children’s temperament, parental child-rearing style, and establishment of parent-children relationship are inter-influencing. This research intends to study the relationship of the only-childrens’ temperament and their parental child-rearing style. The study uses 76 only children in 5 years old from 7 Taipei kindergartens as the sample. Study methods are observation and questionnaire to collect information. Tools are Infant’s Temperament Measurement, Parental Child-rearing style Measurement, Children’s Sharing Behavior Measurement, observation records, basic information. The results find: 1. There are partial relationship between infant’s temperament and parental child-rearing style. 2. The infant’s temperament and parental child-rearing style has no relationship with infant’s sharing behavior. 3. The observed sharing behavior has significant relationship with teachers’ assessment in infant’s sharing behavior. 4. Infant’s temperament, parent’s rearing style, and sharing behavior have no significant differences in gender. 5. Infant’s temperament has no effective predication in sharing behavior; and parental child-rearing style has “ignorance” item will predict infant’s sharing behavior. Base on the research findings to make practical recommendation to provide references for teachers and parents’ in educating and rearing the only child.
