Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北科技大學 === 土木與防災技術研究所 === 89 === This study first analyzed the occupational hazards and risk factors of open excavations. The major cases of excavation accidents in Taiwan were collected for review, analysis, and comparison. The fundamental reasons of open excavation accidents were examined and studied. Also, we compared safety requirements of the existing construction standards and labor safety laws for open excavations. Then, we compared and contrasted the differences between the standards and requirements of Taiwan, United States, Japan, and Canada. We investigated the risk factors to determine the adequacy of the current " Safety and Health of Construction Facility Standards -Open Excavation." according to four risk categories-the construction techniques and construction equipment, the geology and ground water of construction sites, the safety monitoring of excavations and shoring, and the applicable standards and work site management. It was intended to adopt the merits of other countries'' standards, and propose revisions to the existing " Safety and Health of Construction Facility Standards -Open Excavation." We believe this study will improve the current construction practice and serve as a guide to construction contractors and relevant government agencies.
