Description
Summary:碩士 === 淡江大學 === 建築學系 === 89 === As architecture is an important outcome from culture and science in its age, the design thinking of architecture could mostly be originated from the consequences of contemporary environment and technology. Inevitably, modern architects still pursue the steps of previous generation of architects to obtain the inspiration for their designs. Modern architecture of the 20th century is influenced by industrialization, presented mechanical characteristics internally and industrial symbols externally, which becomes the principal feature and style of today’s artificial environment. Since the breakthrough of the computer technology in the 1980s, the lightening form replaced the monstrous body required by traditional mechanical, which broke the restrictions brought by the design rules established since the 1960s — “form follows function”. The contemporary industrial design works fully reflect our media culture and modern trends, in a design method that is more delicate and user-friendly. The result consequently encourages the following industrial products to be more forward-looking and creative in the originality of design concept than architectural design. This research discusses the features, the physical design concepts, and techniques of industry-product in our age: portable, decomposable and menu-selection. The exploration of contemporary industrial products and the ideology of modern architecture is the basis for the follow-up design studies. Besides, the analogy between programmable space and the “key frame” concept in computer animations is carried out to investigate the major issues of non-permanent dwelling. Furthermore, through the applications of computer-aided design software, the kinetic designs of space are generated and simulated. This study attempts to employ a non-traditional definition of a “home” as the basis for design. In digital age, due to the transformations of lifestyle and artificial environment, human beings have new interpretations for their space - the concept of non-permanent living. The objective of this investigation on nomadic and programmable space is to re-explore and re-examine the new opportunities of contemporary architecture.
