Abstract:
This paper describes two control schemes that can be applied to reduce printing time of the Braille printer. The first scheme involves detection of the instance at which the plunger hit the paper using the measured coil current. With this scheme, the voltage driving the solenoid actuator can be turned off immediately after the plunger hit the paper, therefore reduce the printing time. However, the first scheme does not yield a minimum printing time since the plunger force is much larger than the dragging force exerted by the spring attached at the plunger at the instant of hit. Therefore another scheme that can yield a minimum printing time is proposed, the scheme is deduced based on the energy balance at the instance of hit. Both simulation and experimental are performed to verify the proposed control schemes.
